The BIS Module uses the BIS expanded performance, XP, technology from Aspect Medical Systems, Inc. to measure the effects of anaesthetics and sedatives on the brain. BIS has proven to improve the quality of anaesthesia and sedation management by providing the clinician a means to assess the patient’s level of consciousness.

BIS offers the benefits of the XP technology through better EMG detection and resistance during electro-cautery as well as improved detection of near suppression in deep anaesthetic EEG. Paediatric sensors can also be used with the BIS module.

Features

Use of the Bispectral Index (BIS), a processed EEG parameter, may enable physicians to:

  • Assess the level of consciousness and sedation
  • Improve drug selection and management
  • Reduce unnecessary use and cost of hypnotics and sedatives
  • Aid in faster and more predictable wake-up and extubation
  • Assess the risk of intra-operative awareness

XP for expanded performance

  • Increased resistance to electro-cautery
  • Improved performance in EMG conditions
  • Improved performance in both lighter and deeper states of anaesthesia and sedation

BIS Module

  • BIS information on modular Anaesthesia and Critical Care monitor screens
  • Digital display of the BIS value and signal quality indices
  • Trending of BIS, Electromyography (EMG) and Suppression Ratio (SR) for up to 24 hours in anaesthesia and 72 hours in critical care
  • BIS EEG waveform display, one channel

This module is for Datex-Ohmeda modular Anaesthetic and Critical Care monitors only.
